While Avengers: Infinity War was the highest grossing movie worldwide in 2018, can the final Avengers film, Avengers: Endgame, end up as the biggest movie at the 2019 box office? It will have to compete with Star Wars: Episode 9, the final film in the Star Wars saga. Our money is on Star Wars: Episode 9 being the #1 film at the U.S. movie box office, and Avengers: Endgame taking the prize as most popular movie worldwide. Paramount’s zombies are being iced. The studio is halting pre-production on the sequel to World War Z, the high-profile follow-up to its 2013 hit that starred Brad Pitt. The sequel, with David Fincher in the director’s seat, was on its way to a spring or early summer start of production in Atlanta. Paramount and producers at Pitt’s Plan B shingle began making calls to the crew on Wednesday morning. Sources say that budgetary issues came to a head but it is unclear how long the issues have been brewing. Also unclear is whether the project will go back into development or if it is being shelved indefinitely. Paramount had no comment.
Tim Nasson's Top 10 Movies of 2018
It's official. Green Book and Bohemian Rhapsody, are my two favorite movies of 2018. And both were recognized by the Hollywood Foreign Press at the 2019 Golden Globe Awards as the two best movies of 2018. Bohemian Rhapsody (Best Drama), Green Book (Best Comedy or Musical). Unfortunately, the absolute best movie of 2018, Apostasy, could not be considered for my Top 10 Best Movies of 2018 list, (or any other U.S. movie critic's Top 10 Best List), because the film did not receive a theatrical release in the United States. Not giving the film an Oscar qualifying theatrical release is the biggest mistakes that the very indie studio, Gravitas, has ever made. The film is currently nominated for a BAFTA, (the British Oscars equivalent).
2019 Oscar Nominees
The biggest winner, when it comes to 2019 Oscar Nominees, is Roma and Netflix*. The film not only earned Best Picture and Best Director Oscar nominations, it also took a somewhat unexpected Best Actress nomination for its wonderful, yet completely unknown lead, Yalitza Aparicio, who plays Cleo. But it also earned a Best Supporting Actress nomination for the even more unknown, Marina de Tavira, who plays the mother, Seniora Sofia. Check out the complete list of 2019 Oscar nominees and check back February 24, 2019 for the complete list of winners, when they are announced live, right here.
