The First Purge

The First Purge Release Date: July 4, 2018

The First Purge, originally entitled The Purge: The Island, is a prequel that focuses on the events that lead up to the very first Purge event.

Welcome to the movement that began as a simple experiment: The First Purge.

To push the crime rate below one percent for the rest of the year, the New Founding Fathers of America (NFFA) test a sociological theory that vents aggression for one night in one isolated community. But when the violence of oppressors meets the rage of the marginalized, the contagion will explode from the trial-city borders and spread across the nation.

The film series is set in a dystopian future United States, where all crime, including murder, is legal one night a year.

The First Purge is directed by Gerard McMurray and written by James DeMonaco, who both wrote and directed the previous three films in the franchise, beginning with 2013’s The Purge. This new film stars Y’Lan Noel, Lex Scott Davis, Joivan Wade, Luna Lauren Velez and Marisa Tomei.

The Purge was released on June 7, 2013 and took in over $64 million at the North American movie box office.

The Purge 2, AKA The Purge: Anarchy, was released July 18, 2014 and raked in over $71 million.

The Purge 3, AKA The Purge: Election Year, was released July 1, 2016 and grabbed $79 million.

Notice that the poster for The First Purge features a modified MAGA hat. The altered “Make America Great Again” hat is the kind frequently worn by President Trump and his supporters.
